The Pago de Los Balagueses estate is a privileged vineyard site in a solitary location entirely surrounded by forests within the mountainous Parque Natural de las Hoces del Cabriel, an ideal microclimate and soil for vine growing.
Additionally, it is located within walking distance of the Solana de Las Pilillas, a historic site and candidate for UNESCO World Heritage status, where ancient Iberians crafted wine as early as the 5th century BC, representing one of the first evidences of wine production in the Mediterranean. The label pays homage to the Phoenicians, the earliest shippers and traders of wine from the Iberian Peninsula.

Terroir
The estate features excellent soils of natural chalk, marlstone and sandy loam, with limestone rocks in the main part, and sandy gravel on the lower levels caused by slope erosion. Plantings are predominantly Syrah and the local Garnacha-Tintorera, in addition to a small plot of Merlot and Chardonnay.

Los Altos is the newest member of the Pago de Los Balagueses wine family, sourced from superior high-altitude vineyard parcels. Sites selected for Los Altos provide extremely low yields due to their location on the highest hillsides, where soils are rockier, and the vines receive fewer hours of sunlight due to afternoon shade from the tall pines.
